Story Driven marketing with visual punch.

New Monarchy is a Los Angeles based creative studio advancing the impact of the brands it serves through thoughtfully-crafted, visual storytelling. Translation: we make short videos that capture the attention of your target audience and deliver your message in the most memorable way. And we love doing it.

As a small production company, we leverage the robust creative community of Los Angeles to execute a diverse slate of projects that range from web commercials and product demos to music videos and installations. Our scalable structure allows our team of collaborators to vary on a project by project basis, which means we assemble the best creatives for each job. That’s not to say we don’t have our core team of collaborators. We do, and among them are filmmakers and designers working at the highest levels of the industry.

Our name comes from a conviction that the moving image is the most powerful storytelling medium of our age, and it will continue to dominate other mediums in the battle for the attention of audiences large and small. The moving image is the New Monarchy of communication. Basically, video rules.

From Strategy to script, from script to screen.

Strategize

Defining a clear message is at the center of crafting a coherent and compelling marketing asset that connects to an audience. While we often work alongside agencies during this process, smaller companies frequently lean on us directly to help them better define their audience and message.

Script

The script development process is about taking the strategy and giving it a visual story. A number of considerations like budget and schedule also play into this process, but at the center is the creative development of a compelling story.

Shoot

Our team of production collaborators assemble to bring the script to life on the screen, shot by shot. Most of the work of production is preparation, so this process typically takes a number of weeks depending on the scale of the story.

Assemble And Style

The editing process shapes all of the assets of the shoot into the story. Through multiple drafts we continue to strip away all the excess until the most succinct story remains. Next, the addition of visual effects, graphics, music and sound design polish the visual story into a dynamic finished video.

Jonathan Green

Founder and Creative Director

As our lead creative, Jonathan is focused on shaping stories and bringing them to the screen. With a background in disciplines as diverse as philosophy, graphic design, and screenwriting Jonathan brings a unique blend of thoughtfulness and innovation to every project he leads. Many of his efforts have captured the attention of the creative community including the Webby Awards, the Cannes Film Festival, and the American Film Institute where he earned a Masters of Fine Arts. When he’s not developing video scripts or calling "Action", Jonathan enjoys reading, using power tools, and playing legos with his sons.

Jeff Bierman

Cinematographer / Director

Obsessively attentive to things like light, shadow, composition, and of course lens flare, Jeff is responsible for the crafting of every shot. Trained by master cinematographers at the American Film Institute Conservatory, his balance of artistry and craft is keenly present in everything he shoots. Jeff brings a breadth of experience to the New Monarchy team, with a client list that includes Nike, Blackberry, Absolut Vodka, and Allstate to name a few. His work has also been selected for exhibition at the Sundance and Venice film festivals. When he’s not geeking out over the newest cameras and lenses, Jeff enjoys building furniture, cooking, and watching movies with his wife, who is also a cinematographer.

Peter Garriott

Project Manager

From writing coverage for Warner Brothers to managing actor deals at the Screen Actors Guild to project managing Blu-Ray releases for director Guillermo Del Toro, Peter has seen the good, the bad and the ugly of the film and television production world, which is pretty much what he puts up with managing projects at New Monarchy. His attention to detail and organization keep even our most unwieldy projects tidy and on budget. When he’s not drafting crew deal memos and signing actor pay checks, Peter enjoys reading, screenwriting, and (you guessed it) watching movies, not to mention making them. He recently completed his first feature length documentary shot on location in Haiti.

Jake Niemeyer

ASSISTANT EDITOR / master of work flow

We never fear, because the thousands of files that comprise every New Monarchy project are all neatly accounted for by a guy named Jake. A graduate of the LA Film School, Jake is part of a generation that's more comfortable in the digital world than the analog one, and occasionally has to show the rest of the team how it all works. When he's not transcoding footage or doing a rough cut assembly, Jake finds time to re-watch every episode of Doctor Who, read up on new iPhone apps, and curate his music collection.

Have a story that needs telling?

You've come to the right place.
We would love to hear about your next project.
