Capturing Beer in Munich for Churchkey Can Co. (And Drinking It)
Hawkins (left) and Burke at Hirschgarten: the World's Largest Beer Garden
Following Churchkey co-founder Justin Hawkins and his master brewer Sean Burke around Germany for a few days was an educational experience. I mean, I always knew enzymes were important, but wow. The first stop in our shooting schedule was the Doemens Academy brewing school in Munich where Burke will complete his master brewing curriculum later this year. We also traveled via autobaun to Auburg's Riegele Brewery, founded in 1386. (No, that's not a typo. Riegele is over six centuries running, putting it firmly in the top one hundred oldest companies in the world.) Through Doemens, Burke had the opportunity to try out a recipe on Riegele's one hectoliter pilot system.
